Although the sun shines relatively often you can feel that not only autumn is here but also that winter is arriving. Last weekend, Giulia and I went to Dartmouth, a cute little city on the water mouth of the river Dart. We ate delicious Fish&Chips and then went to Dartmouth Castle and a hill nearby where we enjoyed amazing views. Sunday we were brunching with 2 German friends of Giulia. That was delicious!
Yesterday, I went for a walk with Neil. Unfortunately, I did not take my camera with me so I could not take any pictures of the stunning views. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed it. It is generally wonderful to live so close to the sea. I am definitely going to miss this in Berlin. In the afternoon, we were strolling through the city with Viki and Deborah. We ate something in a bakery and then continued to rummage in the shops (Body shop (; ).
There is not a lot going on beside this – I have to start doing my course work now, which includes 2 long essays for Literature I have to hand in before Christmas. On Friday I got French cheese sent from Germany – now I am really satisfied. Well, my life consists of 2 things: looking forward to going home to Berlin on Christmas and looking forward to coming back to Torquay in January.

By the way, thanks to all those who commented the blog! I was really happy about it.

Ca va me manquer à Berlin.

Der Alltag - The everyday life - Le quotidien

In der Nähe seiner Statue war ein Schild: „No access to general public“, was uns kurz innehalten ließ. Giulia meinte jedoch nur: „I’m not general.“ Problem geklärt. ;)

You would not expect to have the everyday life, the boring daily routine during a year abroad… but it actually does appear. After having that little adventurous trip, Giulia and I had to go back to school this week. Nevertheless, we have fun and we enjoy the time… all in all, we are quite pleased with our everyday life here. For example on the weekends, when we are waking up earlier than Mary and Neil and then have breakfast together… I don’t want to forgo these moments. Sometimes, we are sighing because we think about our sad forthcoming parting in December. L
Last Saturday we went to Exeter where I had to look for some material for Literature in the library. Then we went down to the harbour where we drank tea and ate cake in a little café. On Sunday we both did some things for school. Finally, the school began on this week; quite leisurely for me, though: I had 3 frees on Monday, 5 frees on Tuesday and the whole Sixth Form did not have any lessons on Wednesday, just a short meeting with the tutors. I was hard-working this week with the aim of not having any homework to do on the weekend. However, on Friday, instead of having 5 out of 5 lessons like usually, one teacher just left us something to read. It turned out, that these 8 pages contained about 170 words to translate… so obviously, it took much more time than one lesson to finish this. Grrr.
Yesterday, Giulia and I went to Plymouth… where we spent a lot of time in a shopping centre (buying presentsJ). In the end, we went to the coast, where The Hoe is (I’m still not quite sure whether this is the whole area or just the park there). Anyway, there was a really nice light house which we will definitely visit next time and the statue of Sir Francis Drake, who sailed around the world on the traces of Magellan. Next to the statue was a sign: “No access to general public”, which caused us to stop a moment. Giulia, however, just said: “I’m not general.” Problem solved. ;)
One thing I got to tell you: In January, when Giulia isn’t here anymore (sadly), I will get another Italian host sister for 6 months.
By the way, English people are really helpful in the matter of telling where to go. For example, when Giulia and I were just looking at the map to orientate in Bristol, two persons asked us whether we need help. On the other hand, the longer I am here, the more I realize that the English students aren’t really interested in making friends with the international students (Giulia feels just as I do). Maybe it would work if you imposed on them… but that is not what I would do and neither would Giulia. We have quite a lot of fun together so there is no reason to complain… and there are the two nice Hungarian girls Viki and Deborah on my school. Anyway, it is not about the number of friends but about their “value”.

Mais puis, Giulia a dit « I’m not general. » Le problème était desserré. ;)
